For most projects I give you a lump sum estimate in advance, so you’ll never be surprised by an invoice - my fee doesn’t change unless you change the project and we agree on a new price.
Here are a few rules of thumb I apply: on many printed pieces, and especially on articles, I usually charge somewhere between $0.75 and $1.25 per word. Factors that raise the price include extra research, interviews, and short lead times. Factors that lower the price include repeating work (like quarterly newsletters or a series of mailings), adapting or editing previously completed work, or work that requires relatively little research.
I charge $300 a day for travel, plus expenses.
If I am doing the design or typesetting on a project, I will give you a separate estimate for that portion.
I don’t mind revisions. I budget for a couple of rounds of revisions, because I want to get the project right, which means making you happy.
Depending on the project, I’ll usually ask for a signed letter of agreement and a third down before starting work.
ESTIMATES ARE ALWAYS FREE: If you have a project in mind, I’ll be very happy to discuss it in detail with you and prepare an estimate. Just give me a call or send me an
and we can get started.
